Artist Statement:
Honoring the beautiful mosaic stone floors in St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice, imagine this as cut stone, walked on for centuries and now threatened by sea level rise. It was satisfying to draft, match stripes and play with value. The quilting emulates waters around the historic city in the Adriatic Sea.
