Artist Statement:

This quilt reminds us of and honors one of the ways the spirit of our people finds joy, peace, and freedom. That is, through dance. In spite of our lifelong experience of racism, hatred, and oppression, we can still reach deep within ourselves and grab that spirit which will bring out a dance that will lose the chains of mental slavery and give us the courage to stand up and fight for justice. That dance will also heal us in the process.
