Exhibit:

Racism: In the Face of Hate We Resist

Artist Statement:

My inspiration for this quilt came from the shameful fact that People of Color were and are still being unjustly targeted for arrest by the police. Too often these confrontations result in resistance and brutal mistreatment by the police. These beatings/shootings most often resulted in the deaths of many People of Color.

The map of the United States was created by scraps of Africa-inspired fabric. The red beads are sewn in map locations of cities where someone died because of police brutality. The outstretched brown arms above the map, one with slave shackles and the other with police handcuffs, are an indication that the fight is not over.
