Artist Statement:
Born in 1896, Melvin Roberts was my great grandmother’s nephew. He was working as a barber when he died at home in 1926. The doctor who signed his death certificate wrote “... saw Mr. Roberts only once — 15 minutes before his death. Comatose, possibly diabetes.” Melvin was just 26 years old.
