Artist Statement:
This quilt was made to depict the killing of an unarmed African American due to police brutality. On May 25, 2020, George P. Floyd, Jr.’s life was taken away by three Minneapolis police who pinned him down on the ground during an arrest. The quilt shows three knees kneeling over George’s name. These knees symbolize how three police, one kneeling on his neck, one kneeling on his back, and one kneeling on his legs, for eight minutes and forty-six seconds, caused George to suffocate to death.
