Artist Statement:
I am 80 years old, a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. My quilt was inspired after the loss of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Rayshard Brooks, and the many others whose names are no longer said. I chose this African print because it represents my roots, yet also reflects the diversity of my family. I have a multicultured family. I have Hispanic and white in-laws, so I know all lives matter.
My dream for my people is to have a better life, for I, too, have people who died at the hands of police. I have people who never received justice in the courts. I know once we accept Black Lives Matter then we can all believe that all lives matter. But we must never forget the lives cut short just because …
