Artist Statement:

This quilt brings to mind coming to a new land to make the white master rich through cotton production. The Black man looks into the face of a KKK member who, through the use of hate, brings fear and destruction to the Black community. A Black man raises his fist in resistance knowing the white man holds his child’s future in his hand; but still, in the face of hate, we resist. Black people have always fought hard for every freedom guaranteed by the Constitution to all citizens of the United States but denied to them.
