Racism: In the Face of Hate We Resist

Artist Statement:

I created this quilt to express my anger, sadness, and feeling of helplessness. The fist and the interpretation of the Black Lives Matter flag in the upper left corner are out front. The dove is in the background because without justice there is no peace. The print is small on the lower right label because how can we fit all the names on one quilt? I didn't even know where to start, and the ellipsis makes me sad and angry all over again. Where will it end? I have been horrified by the lives lost due to racism. I realize these murders aren't new, but the access to reports, images, and recordings has at least raised awareness. What can I do? Other than continuing to read, learn, act … I can make art.
