Racism: In the Face of Hate We Resist

Artist Statement:

As I watched George Floyd being killed by a policeman with his knee on George’s neck for over eight minutes on television, I became outraged and angry. I had read in the news about past killings by police or saw after the fact events in the media, but I was never witness to a killing. I saw Floyd in apparent agony. I looked at the faces and the body language of the other policemen involved. The policemen appeared nonchalant with seeming expressions of non-concern; they were police without compassion.

Thinking about making a quilt on brutality, I started to research other African Americans killed by police. There were so many - Black children, Black women, and Black men. My initial feelings of anger turned into fear; these policemen are killers in blue. You cannot really identify others until they act.
